ABOUT THE AUXILIARY
What We Do...and Why "Our Work Has Just Begun"
Throughout the year, The Auxiliary raises funds through Rummage Sales
(Carriage House), Holiday Boutiques and celebrity-studded galas called
the "Red Tie."
The Auxiliary Board meets each month to discuss the needs of the Home
to plan the fundraisers and to arrange for personal interactions and
activities for the residents. Auxiliary hosted luncheons and bingo games
occur throughout the year, which gives the members and residents an
opportunity to get to know each other on a personal basis. These simple
interactions kindle the feeling of "family" that exists at
St. Anne's Home.
Several times during the year the Auxiliary has a Carriage House (rummage)
sale where the adage of "One man's trash is another man's treasure"
rings loud and clear.
Every other year in November the Auxiliary has a three day holiday
boutique. The talented and hardworking "Craft Room Ladies"
work year-round with the residents to create beautiful gifts and decorations
for the sale.
Top entertainment, celebrity guests and gourmet foods are only a part
of what makes the "Red Tie." This gala event, held every other
November, is the Auxiliary's biggest fund-raising effort.
Every day, all year long, Auxiliary members work together and share
in the joy that comes from helping the Little Sisters whose lives are
dedicated to the care of the forgotten elderly.
How We Started
In May of 1981, a group of eight ladies met with the Little Sisters
of the Poor to discuss how they could help in fundraising that would
provide financial assistance to the Sisters to help them care for the
aged at St. Anne's Home. Inspired by the Sisters' devotion and kindness
to the elderly, each lady present soon spread the word and invited other
friends to join them.
By July of 1981, there were twenty-five ladies involved with the Home
and the name of The Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor was
created. By-laws were presented and a slate of officers was nominated
with the remaining members becoming the Board of Directors. The Auxiliary's
first official meeting was held in September 1981.
This fledgling group wasted no time in setting up committees and making
plans. Becuase the Auxiliary functioned as both a fund-raising and service
organization, there was work at hand for anyone willing to help. No
job too big or too small. The Auxiliary has been growing ever since.
